7250 km! A distance that separates the Pacific from the Atlantic Ocean. Between these two oceans, we find the vast territory of Canada. Many choose to travel by car or train. Two childhood friends, Jamil and Sulaiman, have decided to take on a massive challenge, to travel the country in a greener and in a more physically demanding way: by bike! This adventure will begin in Vancouver and end in St. Johns, the capital of Newfoundland.
Such a challenge would not be accomplished without a true cause that motivates these athletes to cross west to east Coast of Canada. Involved in dietary health education within the Montreal and Laval youth community for many years, both individuals have set two important goals: supporting youth at-risk in schools for malnutrition and pedalling to highlight the need for change in dietary health education..
Why such a project?
Sulaiman is a physical education teacher who intervenes in schools. The idea immediately appeared to him due to his involvement in sports and to a distinct urge to change the heart of society. On the other hand, Jamil worked on various projects (agriculture, health, education, etc.) in developing countries. It has always been an obvious goal for him to help promote nutrition among youth. Together, they want to make this journey a reality by raising funds for the Breakfast Club to help children have a good start to their day.
In Canada, one in five students is at-risk of arriving to school without eating due to limited access to food.
What is the Breakfast Club?
The Breakfast Club is a non-profit organization (NPO) that works with children from disadvantaged backgrounds, whose mission is to provide a nutritious breakfast and an environment that promotes their self-esteem. Much more than a lunch program, the Club's approach is based on commitment and they value capacity building. Currently, the Breakfast Club is helping to feed more than 220,426 Canadian children in 1,643 schools across the country.
Why participate in this project?
By taking part in this challenge, you contribute to offer more than just a balanced meal! You help these young students to:
• improve their behaviour and concentration;
• improve their academic performance;
• develop social skills and confidence to interact with peers and adults;
• consolidate their interest in school subjects;
• reduce bullying behaviour at school.
That being said, we invite you to take part in an adventure through a contribution that will promote growth in our society’s youth. It is important to note that 100% of your contributions go directly to their benefits. We will also take care of all the travelling expenses.
